Karel Appel
Karel Appel
1921-2006
A Dutch painter, sculptor, and poet, Karel Appel began painting at fourteen and later studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam during the 1940s. In 1948, he co-founded the avant-garde movement CoBrA, which emphasized spontaneity and experimentation in art. Appel's dynamic and expressive style made him a leading figure in post-war European art.
